So many authors might think just getting something self-published on Amazon, or published for you by a small press, is all there is to it. It is the tip of the iceberg. A fellow writer Patricia Grady Cox, though she has a publisher for her new novel Chasm Creek, has hit the deck running with her own marketing efforts. She will have a book launch on January 24. Having a book launch is not a new idea, and I wonder why more authors don’t make the effort to do this. We deserve a book launch for ourselves, as authors, as much as we do for the sake of marketing our books. To me it’s a sort of closure—not that you are going to be relieved of the hard work and effort of ongoing marketing and promotion–but unless you are writing a sequel you are bidding farewell to all those characters who have invaded and occupied much of your brain and heart for months, if not years. This is a good closure that also gets you pumped up for your future efforts in regard to your next book. There’s something about personal acknowledgement of the labor of your love that exceeds the benefits of reviews on Amazon.
Pat is staging her launching extravaganza at Janey’s Cafe in Cave Creek on Saturday, June 24 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. 6602 E. Cave Creek Road, Cave Creek. The town, with its great western ambiance, is a perfect venue for this colorful story about Old Western Arizona. Check it out and see how it’s done! She’ll be signing autographs and there will be music by Three Legged Dog, door prizes and giveaways.
