By the time one reaches the autumn of one’s life it’s easy to give up on a long-cherished dream. Life has a way of sidetracking us. So often if we do manage to take a step toward what we long for, other matters take up our time, energy, money– one at a time, until they threaten to crush any hope of realizing that dream.
In my three-novel Oasis Circle series there are plenty of obstacles in the way of the dreams of five neighbor women and their quirky dogs who live on a humble cul-de-sac at edge of an upscale retirement community in Arizona.
Stella Woods, over-the-hill hippie from San Francisco, is literally blown into town on a summer monsoon storm to find the neighbors and gardens of Oasis Circle are withering. She unites them to bring their friendships and gardens to life. Stella travels a third of the way around the world to regain her trust in love. Francesca, faced with homelessness and the tragedy of murder, overcomes her pride and returns to the family she has kept a secret for sixty-five years. Thea, discarded by her celebrity attorney, finds a way to peel off the armor of propriety that keeps her from being with the man who loves her. Lulu, a pig farmer’s daughter, overcomes the snobbery and pettiness of the country club social circle to create her unique line of gourmet preserves. Billie, a victim of lifelong verbal abuse, meets a stranger who draws her into an entitled world that will restore her self-worth and inspire her courage to win the one love of her life.
It’s about love, friendships, and never, ever giving up on your dream.
