What would drive a middle-aged woman on an eight-week solo backpacking journey across a wild, and often lonesome, frightening place like Alaska? My family believed I was going to enjoy a luxurious vacation in the scenic “Last Frontier.” They had no suspicion I was on a desperate quest for my Self, lost along my life’s path. Responsibilities as wife, mother, and finally single career woman and caretaker for my elderly mother and aunt consumed me and left only the bare bones of who I once was buried amidst ashes of anger and resentment. Because of health challenges, I no longer had my career, home, self-confidence or faith in my family relationships. My journey was the ransom I was willing to pay to reclaim my Self and renew my courage to build a new life. Excerpts of One Shadow on the Path coming soon.
